PURPLE: Ban Russian Oil

President Biden has decided to ban Russian oil imports. According to a Quinnipiac University poll (March 7, 2022) 71% of Americans support this ban, even if it means higher gas prices. This support applies across the political spectrum as 66% of Republicans, 82% of Democrats, and 70% of Independents in favor.

A Morning Consult poll, also issued March 7, has a lower percentage of Americans (49%) in favor when banning Russian oil means higher gas prices. The political differences are narrower with 46% of Republican, 52% of Democrats, and 47% of Independents in favor. These percentages increase to 81%, 76%, and 73%, respectively, 77% overall, if the ban would not lead to higher gas prices.

With this broad support, we rate banning Russian oil imports as PURPLE.
